Bitcoin slipped back toward the $75,000 mark on Wednesday as investor attention rotated toward artificial intelligence chip stocks — a trend highlighted by South Korea’s SK Hynix crossing the $1 trillion market cap threshold, joining U.S. memory chip giant Micron in that elite club.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency traded around $75,200, down roughly 2% on the day, as broader crypto markets struggled to find a catalyst. Analysts noted a sense of apathy settling over digital asset markets, with capital flowing instead toward companies positioned to benefit from surging AI infrastructure demand.
AI Chips Outshine Crypto
SK Hynix, the South Korean chipmaker and key supplier of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in AI accelerators, saw its market capitalization surpass $1 trillion — a milestone that underscored how aggressively capital is chasing the AI hardware buildout. Micron Technology reached the same milestone earlier this year, cementing the HBM memory segment as one of the hottest corners of global equity markets.
The contrast with Bitcoin’s sideways drift was stark. While BTC has held broadly in the $74,000–$78,000 range for several weeks, memory chip stocks have been on a tear, fueled by insatiable demand for AI training and inference hardware from the likes of NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft.
Market Snapshot
Ethereum also felt the pressure, trading near $3,400, while altcoins broadly underperformed. Total crypto market capitalization stood at approximately $2.7 trillion — well below its all-time highs but still elevated by historical standards.
Traders and analysts watching on-chain data noted that Bitcoin exchange inflows remained subdued, suggesting holders are not rushing to sell — but equally, there is little fresh demand driving prices higher in the short term.
What to Watch
Market participants are eyeing upcoming U.S. macro data, including PCE inflation figures and Federal Reserve commentary, for clues on interest rate direction. A more dovish Fed tone could provide a renewed tailwind for risk assets including crypto. Until then, Bitcoin appears content to consolidate near the $75,000 level as the tech sector steals the spotlight.
