XRP Ledger CTO Hints at Possible Canton Network Connection, Clarifies No Official Deal Yet

LAS VEGAS — A potential bridge could eventually open between the XRP Ledger and the Canton Network, according to Denis Angell, Chief Technology Officer of the XRP Ledger Foundation.

Speaking in an interview with Ray Fuentes at the Rare Evo 2026 conference in Las Vegas, Angell addressed questions regarding the relationship between the two blockchain networks and clarified the role of the Unique Node List (UNL) within XRP Ledger’s consensus model.

While rumors have circulated regarding a prospective integration between Ripple or the XRP Ledger and Canton Network, Angell emphasized that no official partnership or technical integration currently exists.

Alignment with Industry Predictions

During the interview, Angell was asked whether Canton Network should be viewed as a direct competitor to the XRP Ledger. In response, he referenced a previous prediction by well-known crypto analyst Crypto Eri, who suggested that the two networks might eventually become interconnected.

Angell noted that this prediction could prove accurate, though he stressed that his assessment reflects his personal expectations rather than an official corporate roadmap.

He pointed to Canton Network’s strong institutional backing—which includes global financial infrastructure giants such as Euroclear and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC)—as a key factor. Rather than viewing Canton as an entity attempting to displace XRP Ledger, Angell suggested the two platforms serve distinct roles within institutional finance and could ultimately complement one another.

Clarifying the UNL Consensus Structure

Angell also addressed the mechanic governing the XRP Ledger’s consensus protocol: the Unique Node List (UNL).

He explained that a UNL is simply the list of trusted validators that an XRP Ledger server consults when validating transactions and reaching network consensus. These trusted nodes ensure transaction integrity across the ledger without requiring traditional proof-of-work mechanics.

While Angell’s comments highlight potential long-term synergy driven by institutional adoption, the immediate takeaway for market participants remains clear: no formal integration between the XRP Ledger and Canton Network has been announced to date.
