Tesla Issues Urgent Recall for Cybertruck Over Potential Wheel Separation

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Tesla has issued a voluntary recall for a specific group of 2024–2026 Cybertrucks following reports that structural failures could lead to wheels falling off the vehicle.

Technical Fault Identified The recall affects 173 units equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intense stress from cornering or driving on rough terrain can cause cracks to form in the brake rotor stud holes. Over time, these cracks may cause the wheel studs to separate entirely from the hub, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.

Owner Safety and Remedies Tesla has stated it is not yet aware of any accidents or injuries related to this specific defect.

  • Symptoms: Drivers may notice unusual vibrations or noise from the cabin before a total failure occurs.
  • The Repair: Authorized service centers will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with reinforced, more durable components at no cost to the owners.
  • Notifications: Affected owners will receive official notification letters by June 20, 2026.

This mechanical recall coincides with a separate software-related recall affecting over 200,000 other Tesla models (S, 3, X, and Y) due to intermittent rearview camera failures.
